How to Prevent Friends from Adding Me to WhatsApp Groups

Another question I get from many people is how to prevent friends from adding me to WhatsApp groups.

We are often annoyed when we are added to WhatsApp groups without our permission, especially family groups. The app allows you to control who can add you to groups by following these steps:

  1. Open the app and click on the menu button
  2. Click on the Settings option and then Privacy
  3. Scroll down to find the Groups option
  4. WhatsApp gives you 3 options to customize who can add you to groups:
    1. Everyone: This is the default option, where anyone who has the WhatsApp app can add you to groups.
    2. My Contacts: This means all the phone numbers saved on your device can add you to groups.
    3. My Contacts Except: This is to exclude some numbers and prevent them from adding you to groups, which is the most suitable option, as this is usually done by some annoying people.
  5. After you’re done, click Done.

How to Hide Read Receipts on WhatsApp

The feature of showing message delivery and read receipts in the WhatsApp app (the blue and gray check marks, etc.) allows you to hide or show read receipts on WhatsApp. These are the check marks next to sent or received messages that indicate whether the message has been sent, delivered to the other party, and whether they have read it yet. If you want to hide these indicators, you can follow these steps:

  1. Go to WhatsApp Settings, then Privacy
  2. Toggle off the button next to Read receipts.

It’s worth noting that this feature does not work within WhatsApp groups.
